Value-Based Healthcare Model

A value-based healthcare model emphasizes the importance of outcomes relative to the costs of achieving them. The goal is to maximize the value of care provided to patients while minimizing waste and inefficiencies. PROMs play a crucial role in this model by providing data that can be used to assess both the quality of care and the economic implications of various treatment options, ensuring that resources are allocated where they can have the greatest impact.

Patient Reported Outcomes (PROMs)

At Fakeeh Care Group, we are dedicated to enhancing patient care through the systematic collection and analysis of Patient Reported Outcomes (PROMs). PROMs are standardized questionnaires completed by patients to provide insights into their health status, quality of life, and treatment outcomes from their unique perspectives. This vital data not only empowers patients but also informs healthcare providers, enabling them to tailor treatments and improve healthcare delivery effectively.

Why PROMs Matter?

Implementing PROMs is essential for several reasons:

  1. Patient-Centric Care: PROMs place patients at the center of their care, allowing them to express their needs, experiences, and concerns, which is critical for effective treatment planning.
  2. Informed Decision-Making: By providing a platform for shared decision-making, PROMs foster collaboration between patients and healthcare providers, ultimately enhancing the overall care experience.
  3. Quality Improvement: Through the analysis of PROMs data, healthcare organizations can identify gaps in care and monitor the effectiveness of treatments, leading to continuous quality improvement.

Generic vs. Disease-Specific PROMs

  • Generic PROMs: These measures, like the EQ-5D-5L, assess health outcomes applicable across various diseases and conditions, allowing for broad comparisons and benchmarking within diverse patient populations.
  • Disease-Specific PROMs: Instruments such as the PAID‐5 are tailored to specific conditions, providing targeted insights into the unique challenges faced by patients with that particular disease. This specificity allows for a more nuanced understanding and management of disease-related concerns.

EQ5DL: a generic PROMs adopted at Fakeeh Care

The EQ5DL is a widely used generic measure of health-related quality of life. It assesses five dimensions: mobility, self-care, usual activities, pain/discomfort, and anxiety/depression. Each dimension is rated on a scale that reflects the patient's perceived health status, allowing for a comprehensive overview of their quality of life. The EQ5DL also includes a visual analog scale (VAS) where patients can rate their overall health on a scale from 0 to 100. This tool facilitates comparisons across different populations and conditions, making it invaluable for health economic evaluations and benchmarking.

PAID‐5 PROMs for Diabetes: a disease-specific PROMs adopted at Fakeeh Care

The PAID‐5 (Problem Areas In Diabetes-5) questionnaire is specifically designed to assess the emotional aspects of living with diabetes. It evaluates diabetes-related distress, which can significantly impact a patient’s ability to manage their condition. The PAID-5 consists of five questions that capture feelings of worry, frustration, and concern related to diabetes management. By identifying these emotional challenges, healthcare providers can offer targeted support and resources to improve patients' overall well-being.

Success of PROMs Implementation at Fakeeh Care Group

  • Micro-Level Impact:
At the micro level, our PROMs implementation has transformed patient-physician interactions. Physicians can view real-time PROMs data integrated into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system, enabling them to track trends and adjust treatment plans accordingly. Patients benefit from the Fakeeh Care app, where they can access their PROMs results, empowering them to take charge of their health and engage actively in their treatment journey.
  • Meso-Level Impact:
At the meso level, our organization can assess and monitor health outcomes within the community we serve. This data allows us to identify gaps in care, evaluate health programs, and implement continuous improvements based on an evidence-based approach, supported by research and innovation.
  • Macro-Level Impact:
On the macro level, the insights gleaned from PROMs enable us to benchmark our measures internally. This drives the future of healthcare at Fakeeh Care Group, enhancing overall health system performance and leading the charge in policy development and evaluation.

Commitment to Data Privacy and Ethical Use

At Fakeeh Care Group, we are committed to maintaining the utmost standards of data privacy and confidentiality. All patient information collected through PROMs is handled in strict compliance with data protection regulations. Furthermore, it is important to note that the use of these PROMs tools is solely for non-commercial purposes, aimed at enhancing patient care and improving health outcomes. We prioritize the integrity and security of patient data while striving for transparency in our practices.

Results Visualization and Community Commitment

In our commitment to transparency and accountability, we will provide visual representations of the outcomes derived from the PAID-5 and EQ-5D-5L PROMs. Graphs and charts will display key metrics, such as patient-reported distress levels from the PAID-5 and overall health quality ratings from the EQ-5D-5L. By sharing this data with our community, we aim to foster a collaborative environment where patients can see the impact of their feedback on health services. This openness reinforces our dedication to continuously improving health outcomes and enhancing the quality of care we provide.

Finally, at Fakeeh Care Group, in alignment with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 and the Healthcare Transformation Program, our commitment to integrating PROMs into our healthcare delivery model exemplifies our dedication to patient-centered care, innovation and transformation in healthcare.

By utilizing PROMs, we not only improve individual patient outcomes but also enhance the overall quality of care within our community. Join us in this transformative journey towards a more effective, value-based healthcare system where we can create a healthier future for our community, ensuring that quality care is accessible and responsive to the needs of every patient by focusing on “What Matters the Most”!
